Our watering hole

The proverbial place where most folks know your name. Our version here in Kampala is a gorgeous outside restaurant called The Lawns. A stone's throw from our house, we can have a drink and some food (Naomi's favorites are the butter naan and pineapple juice) and watch her run around chasing the rabbits or counting the birds in the trees overhead. There is an expansive verdant lawn with huge, comfortable, floppy sofas. We can catch up on neighborhood politics, meet friends, introduce newcomers to Kampala to one of the great things about the place, or just take a break. I love plotting time there - remembering when Naomi could hardly walk up the hills herself, and she now runs up and dives down them. She meets other kids and sizes them up. She talks to pretty much everyone. We're pretty lucky to have found this place in walking distance from our house and remember the watering holes of the past.
