Missing Timor

I'm sad. Sad that we're nearing the end of our time at home - in Timor. Almost four years of incredible whirlwinds, friends, professional and personal experiences, and here we are. I'm remembering more of the positive each numbered day: savoring the avocados, taking a few more deep breaths as I see the gorgeous views on the walk to work, run in the evening, and even on the walk to the market (a bit dusty and rank smelling!). As of today, it is less than two weeks until Lendell and I leave as Len&Kate and then a few more months back here on as just Kate.

The flipside of this is that I'm excited about what is ahead and able to really savor the moments, the people, the tastes of Timor today. Unadulterated, bruised, warty, and real. People ask me what I'll miss the most and it makes me think about the beautiful experiences but also all of the lessons I've learned. For me, raw learning often shows up in richer hues that the neat kind that you can fit squarely in a box. Maybe that is what I will miss most of all. I think I’ll be able to hold onto this and infuse the ordered, clean life in DC with a few of these bumpy bits.
